Starting Horses Under Saddle

"This will be a good experience
for the horse as well as the handler."

We want the horse to enjoy the process of riding and the steps to get there.  We work toward a willing partner. The techniques of having a horse under saddle are less important then the trust established in the process

We recommend having the horse intended to be started to be evaluated prior to beginning the program.  Most start at the age of 2 years old.  There can be many factors that result in a delay of this process based on the evaluation of size, mental status, breed, condition, and discipline expected. Our trained staff can help determine this.

What You Will Need:
Minimum of 30 days of training required at our facilities. Length of program will be determined by the progress of the horse. Each horse will learn to trust the trainers, accept the equipment, and allow the owner to be a passenger on its back at different speeds.

What You Should Expect:
To participate a minimum of 1 scheduled session per week each week of training. Each horse will be exposed to most if not all of our training staff, as well as my self. This is to insure the horse is exposed to various body movements. Each horse is handled with the utmost respect and care.  They will each have daily turn in a training paddock and stalls are cleaned daily.

- Your horse should be familiar with the equipment that it requires to be ridden in what ever discipline (English or western)
- The owner will have ridden him/her to make sure they are comfortable.
- Each horse should walk, trot, lope, whoa and turn obstacles.
- The horses are considered green broke and not finished after 30 days of training.  We place the building blocks for your gaits and behavior. Further training will be required to refine the technique and discipline.
Realistic goals will be discussed prior to and at the end of training sessions.

Safety is a number 1 priority for both our training staff as well as your future riding partner.
